What are tags?

A tag is a word or short phrase used to describe an image. Tags can describe any aspect of the image, including the colours, scene depicted or feelings it evokes. Examples of tags might include: blue, winter, sunshine, rites of passage, happiness.

Why are tags useful?

Tags are useful because they can describe aspects of an image, or associations between works, which are not included in a traditional curatorial description. Tagging encourages greater interaction with the work. By describing an image in your own words you can share your perspective with others. The words which you add will be used for searching and browsing, helping everyone to make new connections and comparisons between works.

How do I create a tag?

When you view an image, any existing tags can be found at the bottom right-hand of the screen. To add your own tag, simply enter it in the box provided and select the Add button.
