Blue: A Personal Selection by Colm Tóibín
Opening Date: 26 February 2004
Closing Date: 1 April 2004
Location: The Chester Beatty Library, Dublin
In 2004 the author Colm Tóibín presented a personal interpretation of the Chester Beatty Library's Collections, focusing on the colour blue. Tóibín searched through the collection for objects that were both 'blue and beautiful'. The pieces featured in the exhibition came from many cultures, including China, Japan and the Middle East, and from many centuries. According to Tóibín: 'The criteria for their selection was, to start with, their colour - blues of all types, many of them dazzling - and then their beauty, which is astonishing.' A selection of works which were on display is included here for your enjoyment.
