Ways of Giving

We are extremely grateful to all our generous supporters, without whose help we could not achieve our goals. If you would like to make a donation to the Library, you may find the following information helpful:

Tax-effective giving

The Library is a registered charity (reference number CHY 5879), which means that gifts of €250 or more are eligible for tax relief. The arrangements for tax relief depend on whether the donor is a PAYE taxpayer or a self-assessed taxpayer.

Self-assessed taxpayer

Individuals who pay tax on a self-assessment basis can make a donation of €250 or more and claim the tax relief personally.
Example: A self-assessed taxpayer at the higher rate of tax (41 per cent) makes a donation of €1,000 to the Library and claims tax relief of €410. The net cost to the donor is €590.

PAYE taxpayer

PAYE donors are asked to complete and return a tax certificate (CHY2 form) which the Library then uses to claim a repayment from Revenue at the end of the tax year.
Example: To give a gift of €1,000, a PAYE donor at the higher rate of tax (41 per cent) makes a donation of €590. The donor is sent a CHY2 form to complete and return, and the Library then claims a refund of €410 from Revenue at the end of the year.

Donations of objects
and in-kind support

We are extremely grateful to those generous supporters who have donated books and other works of art to complement our collections. We are also grateful for in-kind donations of goods and services.

Bequests

A charitable bequest allows you to make a lasting contribution without immediate financial outlay. If you are thinking of leaving something to the Library, it would help us greatly if you could let us know of your intentions - particularly if you intend to leave an object - as it is helpful to hear about potential future additions to the collections. All information will be kept strictly confidential.
If you would like to talk to us in confidence about making a bequest, please contact Paula Shalloo, Head of Development (+353 1) 407 0773 or by filling in the Contact Enquiry Form.
