Imperial Mughal Albums from the Chester Beatty Library

The Chester Beatty Library holds one of the finest collections of Mughal paintings in existence, and this travelling exhibition included many of the best of those works. The exhibition was displayed at four major US museums (itinerary below) and will return to the Library for a summer exhibition in 2010. Further details here. The exhibition focuses on a group of six albums (muraqqa‘s) compiled in India between about 1600 and 1658 for the Mughal emperors Jahangir and Shah Jahan.

The exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated, multiple award-winning catalogue.

The travelling exhibition was organized by Art Services International and the exhibition and catalogue were supported by Culture Ireland and the Annenberg Foundation.

The Honorary Patron of the exhibition is His Excellency Michael Collins, Ambassador of Ireland to the United States.
